How to Tie a Bow Tie

Tying a bow-tie is much simpler than one thinks, if they have the proper guidance. For years, I tried and failed based on written instructions from a book. One day, a man of experience walked in to the store, took the time to show me, and within ONE MINUTE I had it.

I am going to give you written directions to coordinate with the video, showing you how to accomplish this task. In the end, we all know that a self-tie bow tie looks significantly better than the pre-tied version, and of course… James Bond would NEVER wear a pre-tied bow tie.

1) Adjust the neck size to be 1 to 1 ½ inches bigger than your actual neck size. This will give you more material later on, which you will find you definitely need.

2) Start by making the right side slightly longer (about 1 ½ inches) than the left-hand side.

3) Fold the right side of the tie over, up, and then through the left side (exactly how you would start your knot with a regular tie)

4) Take what is now the right side of the tie, and fold it over towards the left to create the bow.

5) Wrap the left side down and over the bow that was created.

6) Take the long end around to the left of the bow, and find the hole that was created in the back of the tie.

7) Feed the long end through that hole in the back and to the right.

8) Opposite ends adjust, so the front right and back left sections of the tie work together, and vice versa.
